Walkthrough
Intro
If you're looking for a Poro: Italian — Listening・Speaking review to see whether it's a good app for learning Italian, this video is for you. I spent some time exploring Poro Italian, and in this review I'll show you how it works, what I liked, where it falls short, and who I think it's best suited for.
What Poro Italian Is
When I first opened the app, I found that it's centered around real-life Italian. Instead of following a structured course with grammar lessons, it gives me conversation-based content organized by proficiency level, covering situations like introductions, shopping, restaurants, travel, work, and everyday life.
Each lesson includes native-speaker audio, an Italian transcript, an English translation, and a phonetic transcription. As the audio plays, the current sentence is highlighted, so it's easy to follow along while listening.
I can also replay individual sentences as many times as I want, which is helpful when I'm trying to catch difficult words or imitate the pronunciation.

Main Features
One of the features I spent the most time with was the app's conversation lessons. Besides everyday dialogues, Poro also includes short stories and news-based content, giving me more opportunities to practice listening and reading with longer passages.
Each lesson offers several customization options. I can show or blur the Italian text depending on how much support I want, hide the English translation and phonetic transcription for a greater challenge, and slow down the audio to better understand fast speech or practice shadowing.
Separate from the lessons, Poro Italian also includes two interactive practice modes: Listening Practice and Reading Practice.
In Listening Practice, the app plays an Italian word or phrase, and I have to rebuild what I hear by arranging the letters or words in the correct order. It's a nice way to check whether I actually understood the audio instead of simply recognizing it.
Reading Practice works differently. It shows me an Italian word or phrase and asks me to pronounce it out loud. The app then gives me immediate feedback on whether I've pronounced it correctly, which makes the exercise more engaging and helps reinforce what I've learned.

User Experience
Overall, I found the app easy to navigate. Lessons are organized into practical categories, and the controls are straightforward. Since I can replay sentences, hide different parts of the lesson, and adjust the playback speed, it's easy to tailor each lesson to my level.
The app is especially convenient for learners who enjoy listening practice or want something they can use in short study sessions throughout the day.

Pros
What I liked most is that the app emphasizes listening to natural Italian instead of isolated vocabulary lists. The native-speaker recordings are clear, and the combination of audio, transcripts, and customizable lesson settings makes it easy to study the same dialogue multiple times in different ways.
I also like that the separate practice modes reinforce what I've learned instead of simply introducing new material.
Possible Limitations
That said, Poro Italian isn't really a complete Italian course.
It doesn't provide much grammar instruction or explain why sentences are structured the way they are, so beginners may need another resource to fill those gaps.
Also, while the Reading Practice mode gives me feedback on whether my pronunciation is correct, it doesn't offer much explanation or coaching when I make a mistake. If my pronunciation isn't accepted, I'm left to compare it with the native audio and try again on my own.
Finally, although there are conversations, stories, and news lessons, the app focuses mainly on listening and repetition rather than building a structured learning path from beginner to advanced.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I think Poro Italian is a solid option if your main goal is improving your listening comprehension, pronunciation, and familiarity with everyday Italian conversations. It works particularly well as a practice tool or companion app, especially if you already have another resource for grammar and more structured lessons.
And if you're still comparing options, there is another platform that may be worth considering.
