Getting Started
When I first started with TalkPal, the setup was quick. I chose Italian as my target language, set my level, and within minutes I was inside my first conversation. The interface is clean and simple, and everything is easy to find — from chat to roleplay modes. I liked that I could start speaking right away without going through a long setup process.
Main Features
TalkPal's strength is in its variety of conversation modes. There's Chat Mode, where I could have a free-flowing conversation with the AI in Italian. It asks questions, responds naturally most of the time, and even adapts to what you say.
Then there's Sentence Mode, where you listen to common Italian phrases, repeat them, and get feedback. This is meant to help with pronunciation and fluency.
Roleplay Mode is fun — I tried booking a hotel room in Italian, and the AI acted as the receptionist. This type of scenario felt realistic and helped me think quickly in the language.
You also get Call Mode, which is audio-only, so it's great for focusing just on listening and responding without visual prompts.
And there's even Photo Mode, where you describe an image in Italian, which is a nice way to practice vocabulary and speaking under a bit of creative pressure.
AI Feedback
One of the main selling points of TalkPal is real-time feedback on grammar and pronunciation. When I spoke, it highlighted words or phrases to improve and suggested corrections. However, while the grammar tips were sometimes helpful, they weren't always accurate, so I learned to double-check anything that didn't seem right. The pronunciation feedback, especially, felt basic — it could tell if I said a phrase, but not always if I said it correctly.
